Our coach showed me the different motors and sensors on the robot. The cables that connect to the robot “brain” are coded with numbers and letters. The letters “A”, “B”, and “C” attach to the motors. Cables 1, 2,3 and 4 attach to different sensors (touch sensors and light sensors). I also learned how to set up a timer on a robot so that it doesn’t keep on trying something over and over and never stop. With a timer, it will stop trying to do something when the time is up. My coach also showed me that the robot doesn’t always get everything right. First, we learned how to make it go forward. Then I learned how to make it turn. Then I learned how to use the light sensor. This sensor can tell black from white. Black is “0” because it doesn’t reflect any light and white is “100” because it reflects a lot of light. Our robot showed the numbers wrong at first. We had to reprogram the robot to show the numbers correctly.
