A couple weeks before we left for Iowa, High Tech Kids invited us to an event at Target Headquarters in downtown Minneapolis. Since one of our team members was a Target TWIST EPIC Award winner, they asked us to help represent High Tech Kids and demo our robot. We enthusiastically agreed to go there for a couple hours and talk to Target employees about FIRST.
When we were arrived, we were excited to see that many of our friends were also at the event, including Knightkrawler, an FRC team from our school district. Each of the FTC teams were at our own designated table with access to a shared full field to run our robot. We quickly set up our booth area and got our robot ready for driving. Before we could even make it over to the field, though, Target employees came over and we began introducing them to FTC. We spent a few minutes talking about the program and our experiences in it before heading to the field area and joining the other teams in a match.
Over the next couple of hours, we talked to many different people about FIRST and made them excited about youth robotics. We also gave out some robot driver’s licenses to people who tried driving our robot. This included Target employees as well as FLL and FLL Jr. students who came by to watch the bigger robots. Though it was a shorter demo, we had a lot of fun talking to Target and seeing our robotics friends. Thanks to High Tech Kids for this opportunity!
